Professional horse logger; Excellent horses;
Minimum impact in your woods
... I knew if the horsemanship wasn't good for the horses I would find it hard to watch.
Along came Jason and Katrina... the owners of a number of Brabant Belgians. These are foundation bred Belgian workhorses. Talking with Jason he was saying all the right stuff in regards to his handling of the horses, but as Ray would say... "listen to the horse, not the person." Well, I thought I would take a chance ... I was not disappointed. Jason's horses are very well mannered, well trained, and they will do anything Jason asks them to do. In return Jason takes very good care of them. He makes sure the harnesses fit properly, brings hay for them to eat during lunchtime, and sheets them for the ride home if necessary.
Jason is also a very professional logger. He was very concerned about falling the trees in such a way as to do the least amount of damage to the other trees.
I have other friends that run conventional logging operations, and over Christmas there were conversations about how deep the ruts were from their machines because there isn't much frost in the ground this year. Jason and his horses have't even disturbed the dirt in the woods!
I had complete control of which trees were harvested. Jason and I walked the woods, Jason gave his opinion as to what he would do, but the final decision was mine. Got to leave the squirrels a home!
So in conclusion if what you are looking for is a professional horse logger with excellent horses who leave minimum impact in your woods, look no further. Jason is the one you want.
I have enjoyed watching these magnificent horses pull huge logs onto the landing, and wait patiently for Jason's next instruction. Always willing and under control. It was very cool!
Sincerely,
Jeanne
